Sliding Table Saw | Router Table Essentials

Sliding Table Saws in production

There are plenty of different sliding table saw options that you can check out for your workshop or next DIY plan. As with all woodwork machinery and tools, the key is making sure you find a slide table saw that is precise and can help you with your favorite woodworking projects.

Along with a quality router and router bits, make sure it has the features that you’re looking for such as dust collection via a dust port, a jig, guide rails, fence, and a router plate and/or a router insert, miter gauge, and other table attachments. In this way, it will let you accomplish a new work piece every time you want to use it. You’ll be surprised just how many options there are for this type of slide table saw and just how many projects can be made with one.

Sketchnbuild SNB95 Sliding Table Panel Saw

SNB95 14" 7HP SLIDING TABLE PANEL SAW (3-Phase)Available in a three phase or single phase option, the Sketchnbuild Table Saw is extremely heavy duty and provides you with precision, no matter what you’re looking for. It’s definitely a heavy unit, so once you get it where you want (which you’ll need equipment for that) you’re not going to be moving it again.

This is the type of tool you get when you’re planning on really committing yourself to woodworking and you’re looking to get some of the top-of-the-line options for tools. It is a little more rugged, but it’s definitely accurate and high quality, which is why you’re going to pay a little more for this saw as well.

You will get what you pay for, however, with a tool that you can rely on to get you what you’re looking for when it comes to machining. No matter which of these two options you choose, you’ll have the same quality to look at. You also get a control panel to manage all of the switches and to make sure you and anyone else using your workshop is a whole lot safer.

Grizzly G1023RL 3 HP Cabinet Left-Tilting Table Saw

Grizzly Industrial G1023RLWX - 10" 5 HP 240V Cabinet Table Saw with Built-in Router TableThe Grizzly G1023RL is a large table that features a range of different options for whatever you want to do. It has head sliding rails with fully adjustable grab plates and comes in at a much lower weight than the previous option. While still very difficult to move (and requiring equipment) it’s a bit more user-friendly.

It’s super easy to assemble as the main part of the saw is already ready for you right off the truck, and everything that needs to be level will be right out of the box. Just tighten the pieces down and you’re pretty much ready to go. Made in the United States, this is a solid unit that is as easy to operate as it is to put together (or even more so).

It’s a little lower horsepower than some other brands and takes a bit more effort to get things done, but you’re definitely going to have the power you need for most things. If it starts to overheat it cools down quite quickly and you can be off and running just that fast again. The operation is extremely smooth and simple and you get plastic guides for your fence as well.

Grizzly G0623X Sliding Table Saw 10-Inch

Grizzly Industrial G0623X3-10" 7-1/2 HP 3-Phase Extreme-Series Sliding Table SawThe Grizzly G0623X Sliding Table Saw has large panels that are entirely supported, so you don’t have to worry about anything when it comes to ripping or crosscutting. You also get a scoring blade that gets rid of the issue of tearing out all the time, so you always get a factory style edge.

Plus the main port helps you keep the dust down—always an important aspect when it comes to doing anything in a woodworking shop or with wood cutting tools of any kind.Moderate weight compared to other similar units, this one has plenty of blade options and features and is capable of creating dados of 13/16”, rips of 33”, and crosscuts of 78 ½”.

But that’s definitely not all you’re going to be able to do with this unit because it’s designed to really get you off and running for your next project. It’s great for commercial purposes and it’s capable of executing whatever you may be looking for. It’s a smaller system than some of the others, but it still has a lot of the features you’re looking for.

Shop Fox W1811 10-Inch 5 HP Sliding Table Saw

Shop Fox W1811 10-Inch 5 HP Sliding Table SawThe Shop Fox W1811 has a 5HP motor, so you’ll get a little more power than some of these others. You’re also going to get a decent size table with the extension wings you need in order to get a good quality cut for longer boards as well. You get plenty of space for crosscutting, dados and a whole lot more, which is important in a table saw.

You’re also going to get fully supported pieces that increase the quality of everything that you produce and a similar weight to the other options here.Complete with a two-year warranty, this table saw will give you a good cut for a range of different projects and makes sure that you have the power and speed to get everything done quickly and accurately.

No matter if you’re putting this in a personal workshop or if you’re putting it in a woodworking shop, you’re definitely going to have something you can rely on and something that you will enjoy using as well. There’s plenty of features and options and it doesn’t take up as much space as you’ll find with other table saws of similar capability. With plenty of safety features and more, you’re not going to find a better saw for this type of price range.

Any of these table saws are going to help you get a great cut every time that you want it. It’s also going to ensure that you have a lot of fun with your router and your other woodworking tools. There’s no reason that you should have to sacrifice the quality and the styles that you’re looking for in order to get a great tool, just keep in mind that these tools, in particular, are going to be a bit more expensive than some of the others that you might be looking at in the home improvement or tool stores.

Router Table Jig Tips and Insights

A man using a router table jig

Router Jig AdviceThere are a number of different things that you can do if you have a jig for your new router table. But it’s definitely going to be important to check out some of the more advanced features and things that you’ll want to try.

Before you do anything, you need to know what kind of jig you have. There are box joint jigs, dovetail jigs, join jigs, router circle-cutting jigs, circle jigs, and many more. There are also many different features to go with them.

Therefore, here are a few important options when it comes to jigs and why you’re going to want to try out each one of them for yourself and the next few projects you try. Alternatively, maybe you’ll even want to try out special projects just because of the neat jig options.

Mortising Jig

Mortising JigOne of the best types of jigs that you can create is a mortising jig. This help you to create… well, a mortise. What’s great is the mortise is easy to build once you have a mortising jig and the mortising jig is easy to build as well. You need a slab of hardboard that’s about 13” x 8 ¼”. Right in the center, create a 2” diameter hole.

On each side of the long end create a slit that’s 5” long (going across the short side) and 2 ½” away from the edge. Inside these slits, you’ll put two ¼” wing nuts and washers on the bottom side of the board, which will hold the next boards on.

You’ll use a 13 ¾” x 1 ¼” piece of board (3/4” thick) on each of the long ends of the main board. Attach one to each side on the top portion of the board (opposite side as the wing nuts), using ¼” 20 x 2” carriage bolts through the back of the main board and secure with those wing nuts and washers. This allows you to move the support boards as needed. Check out even more right here.

Radius Dish Router JigThis one is a little too complicated for us to simply talk you through it, so the video below is going to help you out with what you’re doing and even give you all the information you need to get the pieces ready for yourself.

Dovetail Jig

Dovetail JigAnother somewhat complicated jig is the dovetail jig. These ones are going to help you create dovetail joints for the woodworking projects that you create. They’re definitely beautiful and they’re extremely strong at the same time.

That’s definitely going to be a great choice for anything that you want and you can adjust it to create tapered ends, fingers or notched ends as well as making them different sizes or different spaces.

In the end, this option is really only limited by the creativity that you have when putting it together. And the jig itself can be arranged in different configurations to get multiple options out of one piece.

Fence Micro-Adjuster

Fence Micro-AdjusterThis is a simple jig that helps you to adjust your fence quickly and easily, but also only slightly. Your jigs clamp onto the table with one at each end of your fence and with a stop that hits the back of the fence. This ‘stop’ is just a cap screw that uses an Allen wrench to turn.

By just slightly twisting the Allen wrench when you’re looking for more adjustments you’ll easily be able to get just microscopic movements to get to the right spot, plus you move each side independently.

Depth Gauge

Depth GaugeThis jig is going to be great for helping you understand where your bit really falls. You won’t have to just ‘eyeball it’ and you won’t have to keep breaking out your tape measure to get it done.

This gauge is simple because it just creates a wide ‘U’ that then uses a small piece of measuring tape or block to help you measure where the bit is in relation to where you want it to be.

You can set the tape to where you want the bit by just sliding it and then you set it right next to the bit, allowing you to get just the right distance more easily and accurately.

Adjustable Trammel

Adjustable TrammelIf you’re looking to create circles and arcs then an adjustable trammel is a great option because it can create small or large diameters.

You’ll be able to create a whole lot of different sizes and shapes and you’re going to love the way it carves out designs for any project that you want to create.

The key is making sure your trammel has a large pivot block and just the right size options so you can create some really unique project designs whenever you want.

Coping Sled

Coping SledYou’ll want this if you’re going to be doing any end-grain milling especially. It helps to hold the pieces together and makes sure that you won’t have any problems with walking or angling while you’re working on cutting your board. You can create it relatively easily and using it is even more simple.

So, if you’re interested in this use for your router, make sure you’re putting one together for yourself. There are plenty of different types of jigs out there and you may even create one of your own that seems to do a better job than anything else for some project or another.

Final Remarks

The most important thing is just making sure that you have the jigs you need when you need to use them, so you’re not left trying to take on a project entirely on your own without the tools to help make it easier. These jigs are definitely going to make your life easier, but they aren’t the only jigs out there.

You can definitely find plenty more where these came from and plenty more wherever you look. Check out more on how to make some of these router jigs right here and be sure you don’t miss out on making your projects easier.
